What’s included
with a Lexmark business class MFP solution?
- High quality network scanner
- Lexmark laser printer
- MarkNet print server or controller (depending upon
model)
- Additional memory and hard disk (depending upon model)
- Scanner stand or shelf (depending upon model)
- Lexmark Document Distributor (optional workflow software)
What scan capabilities can a Lexmark network MFP
support?
Depending on which printer serves as the technological base
of the multifunction unit and which scanner is included
with a particular MFP solution, you may be able to scan
in several modes:
- E-mail (SMTP) document delivery applications
- FTP remote copy, internal fax, archiving application
- Scan to PC workstations via web browser
- ScanBack utility for image capture and manipulation
- Scan to Lexmark Document Distributor for workflow automation
Please refer to a specific Lexmark MFP solution for more
information.
How extensive is the Lexmark network MFP’s
copy function?
You can complete numerous copying tasks in the Lexmark MFP’s
copy function. These include:
- Scan once, print many
- Job build
- Simplex or duplex copies
- Copies with mixed original types, such as photos and
text
- N-up (2-up, 4-up,etc) copy to save paper
- Colour copy (with colour laser printer)
- Finishing (optional)
What is the Book Copy mode?
Book Copy mode allows you to place a book on A3/tabloid
units (Lexmark X820e or Lexmark X7500) and quickly copy
both pages. The Lexmark MFP unit scans facing pages, then
digitally splits them to print each page on a separate sheet
of paper or on one duplex page if the duplex option is installed
in the printer. An A3 original produces two A3 pages, and
an 11” x 17” original yields two 8.5”
x 11” pages. With this feature, you can copy two facing
pages of a book in one simple operation.
What is the Transparencies + Separators function
on Lexmark MFP solutions?
Transparencies + Separators is another productivity tool,
saving you time. This feature simply places a blank sheet
of paper between each transparency copy, reducing sticking
from static and improving readability. To activate this
feature, press the Copy Media button until the transparency
light is illuminated, then press it again until Transparency+Sep
appears on the control panel display. The transparencies
and paper must be loaded correctly. The plain paper source
must be an automatic tray, and the size must be set to be
the same size as the loaded transparencies.
What does the collate feature do?
When you select Collate on the operator panel of a Lexmark
MFP unit, the page images are created and sorted within
the printer memory before being physically printed. If a
document to be collated contains many pages, this choice
imposes increased memory requirements on the printer. Depending
upon the page count and the complexity of the images, twice
as much memory may be required to print the document.
What is Scan to FTP?
A web page or UCF (universal configuration file) can be
used to configure an FTP (file transfer protocol) destination.
Each destination has the following parameters associated
with it:
- Destination name
- FTP server name or IP address
- User name and password to use when logging in
- Base filename to use when storing files on the server.
This filename needs to include the path to the directory
to use when storing files. For example, to store a file
in the “\images\netscan” directory with the
base filename “scandoc”, the entry should
be “\images\netscan\scandoc”.
Unique filenames are constructed from the base filename
by appending the current date and time along with the proper
file extension (.pdf, .tif, or .jpg).
Remote copy or internal faxing is possible by scanning
to FTP. To activate this application, you need the following:
- Setup with an ImageQuick-enabled printer
- Internal fax modem
- IP address of the destination printer
- FTP server name
Other “fields” will be viewable on this web
page, but they are not required. You can use “dummy”
information to populate them.
What is the Lexmark ScanBack utility?
The ScanBack utility, a component of the X Series
MFP CD, provides a Microsoft Windows program that reproduces
much of the function of the web applet, but provides certain
other features. It uses the same web interface to submit
profiles and receive documents as the web applet, but as
a native Windows program, it adds certain features, notably
the ability to create a shortcut on the desktop that incorporates
a set of scan parameters. For example, you can create a
desktop shortcut for scanning colour JPG and another for
text PDF.
The actual ScanBack utility closely resembles the applet’s
interface. |
